Attractions

There are a good variety of attractions in Guernsey that will give you a great insight into the history and culture of this small, charming island. Regardless of age, there is something to suit everyone.

Why not take in…

Sausmarez Manor

If you like grand manor houses then try Sausmarez Manor, which is set in beautiful gardens that feature a Sculpture Park and children’s area. Ghost tours of the manor also run year-round for those not easily spooked.

The Little Chapel

To see a real labour of love, visit the Little Chapel built out of thousands of pieces of mosaic that make it a real treasure.

Fort Grey

Referred to locally as the “cup and saucer”, Fort Grey is a shipwreck museum that, like every sailor, has some great stories to tell.

Victor Hugo House

Quirky in style but glorious to see is Victor Hugo’s house in St Peter Port. Hugo lived in Guernsey when he was exiled from France and some of his best known works, including Les Miserables, were penned whilst he lived here. The house can be visited by guided tour only so be sure to call in advance to book your place.

Castle Cornet

Located in St Peter Port’s harbour, Castle Cornet has several museums including the Story of the Castle, a history of the Royal Guernsey militia, 201 Squadron museum and an excellent maritime museum featuring Guernsey’s colourful maritime history from prehistoric times to the present day. Fishing industries, ship-building and naval history are portrayed.

WW2 Historical attractions

For those interested in the history of World War Two, there is the German Military Underground Hospital, the Occupation Museum, St Saviour’s tunnels and a whole host of other remains that give an insight into the life and times for the people of Guernsey during this difficult period in history.

The Visitors Centre in St Peter Port carries a huge amount of information and is an essential port of call for anyone visiting Guernsey as well as Visit Guernsey‘s website. Tourist information can also be found in the arrivals area of Guernsey airport and at the ferry terminal.
